In the midst of their tour's biggest week, LPGA players sealed the fate of embattled commissioner Carolyn Bivens on Thursday. However, not every member supported the player revolt, pointing to the economy rather than their leader.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Helen Alfredsson marched out of the scoring trailer early Thursday afternoon at the U.S. Women's Open with more to worry about than her game.

The dynamic Swede has navigated her share of crazy days but few quite like this one.

With two early birdies at Saucon Valley Country Club's Old Course, Alfredsson jumped onto the leaderboard, only to nosedive off it with two triple bogeys and six bogeys.

After signing for a 10-over-par 81, Alfredsson left the scoring trailer with more daunting work to do than merely fixing her swing.

She's faced with the giant job of helping fix the LPGA with news breaking Thursday that the tour's commissioner is being forced out.

Alfredsson barely had time to digest her round as she marched to the clubhouse enduring a reporter's short inquisition.

She was asked what she knew about Sports Business Daily's report that LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens was agreeable to a buyout and that the tour's board of directors had authorized a golf industry expert to contact potential candidates to replace her. Later in the day, Golf World would report that a general agreement on terms of a separation was reached late Wednesday night and that Bivens was definitely out as commissioner.

LA MIRADA, California (AP) -- A 10-year-old Southern California girl with an extremely rare, adult form of breast cancer says she's sad that her hair is gone but she's trying to remain brave.
Hannah Powell-Auslam, of La Mirada was interviewed Wednesday on ABC's "Good Morning, America."

She was shown getting her hair shaved off rather than waiting for chemotherapy to make it fall out. Her family also got buzz cuts.

The fifth-grader complained of itching in April. Her mother discovered a lump, and that led to a diagnosis of breast cancer. Hannah has had a mastectomy.

Hannah says she tries to find a bright side to things as she battles her illness and the side effects of chemotherapy. She says she's still a kid even though she's fighting an adult disease.

Here are some facts:

Did you know that if every American coffee drinker used a refillable mug instead of a disposable cup, we would save our environment close to 7 million pounds of CO2 emissions every day? Or we could plant 140,000 trees to neutralize the damage!

If you use a disposable container for your daily cup of coffee, you are generating about 22.95 pounds of waste per year.

Breast Cancer Network of Strength

With the New Year right around the corner, there is still time to give the gift of comfort and support to someone facing breast cancer. Make a year-end gift today and help those who can't wait for tomorrow's cure.

A New Year brings new possibilities...

Now, more than ever, we need your assistance. Your gift will help us bring hope and comfort to the patients and families who need it most. In the coming year, our goals are to:
Raise breast cancer awareness: We will expand our outreach programs that provide breast cancer information to underserved Asian, Hispanic and African-American communities. We will make sure all our foreign-language materials are culturally sensitive.

Increase peer support: We have seen significant growth in calls to our YourShoesTM 24/7 support center from people seeking emotional relief and information. We will expand our reach to even more newly diagnosed patients, and their families, caregivers and friends.
Influence public policy through advocacy: We will expand and enhance our advocacy work to address health care needs of breast cancer patients and their families.

Help us reach our 2009 goals by making a gift

Make a commitment to help us ensure no one faces breast cancer alone. Your gift of $35, $20 or even $10 will make a real difference in the lives of those living with breast cancer today.

Sincerely,

I was amazed this evening when I caught the story of D.J. Gregory on Nightline with Charlie Gibson. When I play golf I can hardly walk the 18 holes, let alone walk the 2008 PGA Tour.

This young man is an inspiration to us all, golfer or not. He had a dream and he got to live it thanks to the PGA.

According to the PGA Blog post of November 9, 2008:

D.J. Gregory, a 30-year-old native of Savannah, Ga., did not spend much time at home in 2008. Beginning in January with the first round of the first PGA TOUR event of the year, the Mercedes-Benz Championship, Gregory began a walk that surpassed everyone's expectations -- except his own.

Despite being born with Cerebral Palsy, the goal was simple -- to walk every hole of every PGA TOUR event, spanning 44 weeks. His journey ended when the final putt of PGA TOUR professional Jason Gore dropped at this week's Children's Miracle Network Classic presented by Wal-Mart in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Gregory's passion for the game of golf led him to submit a proposal to PGA TOUR Commissioner, Tim Finchem, with his desire walk every hole on the 2008 PGA TOUR calendar as a way to inspire and encourage others to follow their dreams.

Gregory was paired with a different player to follow each week, and he chronicled his experiences with that player in a weekly blog for PGATOUR.COM. Beginning with Boo Weekley at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship, Gregory's journey concluded this week with Gore.

"It's amazing," said Weekley. "(He) is amazing, very amazing. The Lord blessed (him), and blessed everybody he has walked with every step. He's awesome, very awesome."

"It was a great honor for him to pick me this week," said Jason Gore, with whom D.J. walked in his final event Sunday. "It was a very emotional week for him, but he is a wonderful story and an inspiration to us all. I am very proud to call him a friend."

As part of his weekly walks, which will have totaled nearly 1,000 miles after this week's season-ending Children's Miracle Network Classic, Gregory kept track of everything from his number of falls (29 to date) to the number of holes he has walked (3,184 to date).

Told by doctors he would never walk, Gregory initially got around by sliding with the use of his arms. As he grew, he gained the ability to walk with two canes, and then one. That one cane has been at his side for each step he has logged on the PGA TOUR in 2008

"This year has truly been a dream come true for me," Gregory said. "For the PGA TOUR to have given me the chance to live this dream of walking every hole of every week's tournament is incredible. From this, I just want people to know that if they have a dream, they need to chase it and never take no for an answer."

Gregory began the year off in Maui following Boo Weekley at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. Among the players he followed throughout the year were Zach Johnson (Wachovia Championship), Jim Furyk (Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial), Kenny Perry (Arnold Palmer Invitational), and 2008 Children's Miracle Network Classic presented by Wal-Mart champion, Davis Love III (Wyndham Championship).

Here's his story: http://www.pgatour.com/2008/r/11/08/dj/index.html
